HIT THE BRICKS IN FULTON

In this mile-a-minute world, wouldn’t it be nice if there was someplace, we could go to slow down and actually enjoy ourselves while shopping, dining or attending an event? There is one – just follow the brick roads of Fulton’s Brick District.

Notley Hawkins

At the time they were built, Fulton’s brick streets were the height of technology in road construction. Today, they present a time where shopping is a relaxing, personal experience, people are friendly and the dining is local.

A great way to test the waters in this quaint, lovely district is to check out their second Saturday Shopping Events. Pick up a passport at any participating business and get a stamp at each one. Submit your completed passport to be entered into a raffle to win a $50 Brick District gift card! The event is free and open to the public.

The Brick District Playhouse is an amazing, fully restored 1927 theater that is a can’t-miss in Fulton. And the Children’s Theater Playhouse will be presenting Cinderella and the Substitute Fairy Godmother on March 15, with showtimes at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $8, with children aged 5 and younger free when sitting on an adult’s lap.

Get an in-depth feel for the entire area with a visit to the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society  Museum on Court Street to explore the artifacts, photos and documents that portray the history of Callaway County.

Ready to explore? Let’s start on Court Street. Hopefully, you have comfortable shoes because there is a LOT to take in!

Go for a new look with stops at Olive and Grace and Fuller Jeweler Showcase.

Indulge in your favorite hobbies like quilting, home decorating and reading at Bits and Pieces, Garriott Porter Art, Court Street Framing, Prickly Pear Antiques, Wellread Book Store, and Smockingbirds Gifts.

When you’re ready for a treat, a cocktail or dinner, you still won’t have to leave the area.

The Brick District caters to every taste: GoPo Gourmet Popcorn, Saults Drug Store (old fashioned soda fountain!), The Spot, The Station, Brooklyn Pizza, China Palace, Fulton Café, and Beks, an American gastropub.

I know that’s a lot so far, but the District isn’t finished; check out Nichols Street for Beautifully Grimm Tattoos, Wildflower Boutique and Greenhouse Café.

Turn the corner onto Fifth Street for some unique gift shopping at Remade for a Purpose, as well as a variety of places to take a break like 1851 Underground, KIllabrews, Lulus and  Post Office Bar & Grill.

And still in the neighborhood, visit Grae Studio Design on Walnut Street and Ohana Pizza on Second.

Looking back, you may need TWO pairs of good walking shoes – and more than a day or two – to fully explore the Brick District. So make your plans for a fantastic time! For a full list of dining, shopping, and experiences, visit VisitFulton.com.
