NEED A QUICK ESCAPE? Spend a Weekend the Callaway.
After a tough week at work or just dealing with the breakneck pace of everyday life, everyone needs an escape. But if you’re feeling wiped out, planning a getaway can be a step too far. So, we’ve made it easy for you: a worry-free weekend vacay in Fulton and Callaway County, with almost all the planning provided.
Stay the Callway
The one thing we’ve left to you is booking a night or two at Loganberry Inn Bed & Breakfast or other lodging option. Pro Tip: You can borrow bikes from Loganberry, which is a great way to explore the downtown Brick District.
Get a Taste of Fulton
After you’ve checked in, head over to Beks in Fulton for dinner and enjoy your choice of chef-driven specials and house made desserts. Keep in mind you’re here to relax and have fun, so you don’t have to do it all! Our goal is just to give you options so you can choose your best night.
Friday Fun
Friday nights are @live at the The Station. Chill with live music at 7 p.m. accompanied by a boozie slushie or ice cold beer. Or, time your visit for First Friday at the Woods featuring live music, delectable food trucks, yard games, and more, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at William Woods University.
Of course, if your tastes run less to music and more to the roar of an engine, head a quarter-mile south of Fulton to Callaway Raceway, featuring the best door-to-door dirt track racing action in Missouri. Gates open at 5 p.m. with races to begin after 7p.m. hot laps.
Saturday Shops & Stops
Start your day Saturday with a bike ride on the Stinson Creek Trail followed by trip to the Fulton Farmer’s Market. Take a leisurely stroll through the Brick District shops along Court Street, and around the corner on Fifth Street.
Shops include GoPo Gourmet Popcorn Bar, Olive & Grace Apparel, Smockingbird’s Gifts, Garriott Porter Art Studio, Well Read Books, Prickly Pear Antiques, Sault’s Drugs & Soda Fountain, Re-Made for A Purpose, and Wild Sage Goods. Just a few blocks from the Brick District, you’ll find Homewares by Grae Studio located next to the historic Fulton Depot which is in early stages of renovation.
If you’ve brought the kiddos along, they’ll enjoy a stop at the splash pad on a hot day. Then you can put them to work searching out the Smokin’ Pickle food truck for a great lunch, and follow it up with a shaved ice treat from The Frozen Brain.
Afternoon Fill-Up
Late afternoon, drive a 10 minutes west to Rock Garden Antique Barn, which is part general store, part antique heaven, part museum. Drive another 10 minutes west to Serenity Valley Winery. Sample wines, order a wood fired pizza, and listen to a band as you wait for one of Serenity’s spectacular sunsets.
Do it Right on Saturday Night
If boot scootin’ is your jam, how about a hot Saturday night at 54 Country in Kingdom City? Concessions include setups for your BYOB. Free dance lessons before the 54 Country Band kicks into full swing at 9pm.
A Trip for the History Books
Before you hit the road home on Sunday, make a visit to America’s National Churchill Museum. They’re doing renovations to the exterior of the building but the museum will be open and the Berlin Wall sculpture will be accessible.
Lastly, take a trip down automotive memory lane at Auto World Museum, which features some of the most memorable cars, trucks and other vehicles, shown in historical context.
Come Away the Callaway!
Of course, there’s much more to do here, but we’ll leave some of it for next time. Because we’re sure you’re coming back for another escape the Callaway.
