Celebrate the Holidays the Callaway Way

It’s finally here! The season of light has arrived, with all its beautiful decorations, joyous special events and family fun. It’s the most wonderful time of the year – to celebrate the holidays the Callaway way!

It all starts early, so mark your calendar. You don’t want to miss anything!

Nov. 2, treat your kids to entertainment just for them at the Brick District Playhouse, at the TRYPS Children’s Theatre Production of Winnie the Pooh. Performances are at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tickets are on sale now.

Everyone struggles with at least one hard-to-shop-for person on their Christmas list; it’s an annual holiday challenge. Avoid the traditional choices and opt for a distinctive, one-of-a-kind gift from Callaway County.

Start with the 4th Annual Christmas Open House at Southern Willow Interiors in New Bloomfield on Nov. 7. They've been busy handcrafting many unusual Christmas items perfect for your decorating or gift-giving needs! Doors open at 5 p.m. and the even runs until 8 p.m.

The very next day, Nov. 8, visit Fulton’s Brick District for the annual Holiday Open House. Brick District businesses will reveal their holiday windows at 4 p.m. for the window decorating contest. Stroll downtown Fulton until 7 p.m., and enjoy live holiday music, carriage rides, refreshments, kids’ crafts and a visit with Santa and Ms. Claus! Carriage rides from The Brick District Playhouse and back will be $5/person (cash preferred, cards accepted).

Now, everyone needs a break from all the hustle and bustle from time to time…and one of the best times would be Nov. 16 at Doe Camp at Serenity Valley Winery in Fulton. From noon-2 p.m., play Bingo for prizes in the heated tent. Shop their vendors from noon-3 p.m. and then stay on for live music from Open Road from 3 p.m.-6 p.m., while you eat pizza and drink wine (of course!).

If you prefer to complete one holiday before starting to celebrate the next, the Fulton Christmas Market at the Fulton Depot is for you. The market runs Nov. 29 and Nov. 30, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Dec. 1, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., which leaves plenty of time for getting into the spirit and satisfy all your preps. An expanded layout allows for an outdoor eating area, roasting pit for s’mores, and cozy fire pits to fight the chill. Enjoy fresh-cut Christmas trees, curated holiday gifts, a visit from Santa and his reindeer, musical entertainment, local artisan vendors, food trucks, and a chance to explore the historic Depot.

In a bit of a departure from the red and green and “Ho! Ho! Ho!,” add a little “who done it?” to your holidays with "The Yuletide Homicide” Murder Mystery on the Hill at Canterbury Hill Winery in Holts Summit, Dec. 4, 5 p.m.-10 p.m. These shows sell out quickly, so get your tickets now.

This is enough to get you started on building your Christmas spirit – but save some energy for December – because there’s so much more to come for the holidays in Callaway!
