The Cure for Cabin Fever
It’s that time of year. Cabin fever has set in. We want to be out, but don’t want to stray too far from home because who knows what the weather is going to bring? It could get into the 70s or hit sub-zero. (It is Missouri, after all.)
And sure, Valentine’s Day is this month – but that’s just one day. February is 28 days long and there’s plenty to keep you entertained in Fulton and Callaway County.
Feb. 1, 8, March 1: Tap your toes to the beat at Live Music Wednesday 6 pm.-7:30 p.m. at Brooklyn Pizza in Fulton’s Brick District.
Feb. 9: Grab a few friends and enjoy an evening filled with specials, refreshments and chocolate at local retailers and restaurants during Galentine’s Chocolate Crawl, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. in the Brick District. Visit participating businesses to enter to win one of two $50 Brick District gift certificates (one entry per location).
Explore your creativity at these events:
Feb 10: Sip wine and create a wine themed canvas with the Paint the Town team, 6 p.m. at Serenity Valley Winery, located between Columbia and Fulton.
Feb. 18: Explore your creativity at Watercolor Explorations Pet Portraits with Lynn Porter, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Garriott Porter Art Studio in Fulton. Full day sessions allow participants to paint multiple pets or two separate paintings. Half day sessions are also available. Ages 12+.
Feb 18: The Brick District Playhouse presents another locally filmed and produced independent movie, “Lost Treasure of Jesse James.” Join a backwoods team of Missouri kids as they race to solve a 100-year-old mystery and save their friends. Showings are 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.; meet the actors and get your free movie poster signed!'
Feb. 23-25: Experience “These Shining Lives” presented by William Woods University Theatre Department, at Dulany Auditorium. Four women land well-paying jobs in the 1920s and early 1930s painting glow-in-the-dark radium hour markings on watch dials. They were never warned radium was dangerous. Based on a true story. Showtimes 7:30 p.m. nightly, 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Parental guidance recommended.
If you just need distraction from a mild case of cabin fever, grab your family or friends and head to GoPo - Gourmet Popcorn in Fulton’s downtown Brick District . Get a cup of coffee or soft drink and a bag of popcorn to enjoy while you play one of the hundreds of board games from the owner’s private collection. If you want to continue the fun at home, check out Cardboard Castle located, just across the street. It has all things related to board and card games, including collectibles.
And if you’re completely climbing the walls waiting for spring, head to Battle Creek Paintball in Kingdom City. Blow off the excess steam with indoor rage rooms, axe throwing and escape rooms.
